COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This lesson provides a comprehensive understanding of disaster awareness, risk management, and the role of government policies in disaster protection. Students will explore both natural (floods, droughts, and dzud (severe winter conditions), forest fires and lightning strikes, strong winds, storms and hurricanes, earthquakes and their impact on infrasturcture abd human lives) and human-induced disasters (fire hazards and safety measures, proper use, storage, and disposal of chemicals and household materials, classification and deffinition of toxic and hazardous substances), their impacts on human health and the environment, and strategies for disaster prevention, response, and mitigation. The course also covers safe handling of hazardous substances and measures to prevent disease transmission.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of disasters – Explain the different types of disasters, their causes, and their impact on human life and the environment.
2. Identify and manage hazardous substances – Recognize hazard labels, understand the classification of hazardous materials, and apply safe handling, storage, and disposal practices.
3. Analyze the impact of hazardous substances – Explain how toxic and hazardous substances affect human health and the environment, and discuss risk reduction strategies.
4. Communicate disaster prevention and response strategies – Understand and effectively explain disaster prevention measures, as well as emergency actions to take during and after a disaster.
5. Develop a family disaster preparedness plan – Create a comprehensive household emergency plan, ensuring readiness for various disaster scenarios.
