With the leadership and support of the Ministry of Education of Mongolia and the Embassy of Mongolia in the United States, we started a mutually beneficial cooperation development agreement with the best universities in the United States; George Mason University and the University of Charleston, West Virginia. The delegation led by the President Prof. Namnan Tumurpurev were on business trip to the United States from October 28 to November 2, 2024 by the invitation of George Mason University and Charleston University.
On 28th October, the delegation had a meeting at George Mason University and the meeting was held with Dr. Jill V. Deering and Dr. Silva Pecini Morris, the deans of the Schar School of Policy and Government, to finalize the content of the agreement on the implementation of the joint program. As an outcome of the discussion, MUST and George Mason University agreed to implement a joint program for "3+1+1" Undergraduate and Master's degrees in Public Administration and International Trade and Policy. Students involve in the program will be enrolled and trained at discounted rates or at the expense of domestic students. Within the framework of this partnership, the main advantage of the joint programs is that the students of MUST are able to acquire an education that is not only valuable in their country, but also highly valued in the global labor market at a relatively low cost. In addition, the agreement has been reached to cooperate on providing the opportunity for MUST students to choose the courses of the best professors of George Mason University online.
On the second day, the delegation visited the University of Charleston, West Virginia, which is ranked 4th in the United States in terms of information security training programs, and Prof. Namnan Tumurpurev and Prof. Martin Roth, President of the University of Charleston, signed an agreement to implement a joint program. According to this agreement, MUST students will receive 20-50 percent tuition scholarship to enroll for 3+2 bachelor's and master's degrees and 1+1 double master's degrees in business management, data analysis, information security, social work and other fields at the University of Charleston. It has been agreed that the learning outcomes of the online elective courses will be equally credit recognized in each of the two universities. This is a fruitful opportunity for our students to acquire global education.
On the 3rd day of the visit, Ambassador of Mongolia to the United States Mr. Batbayar Ulziidelger hosted the meeting with our delegation on 31 October, 2024. The ambassador pointed out that the Embassy is supporting the implementation of a joint programs by connecting with the best universities in the United States in order to create opportunities for Mongolian students to get high-quality education in the United States at a low cost. The ambassador gave recommendations to the delegation of MUST that it would be more effective to cooperate with US universities in graduate level. We would like to extend our appreciation to Ambassador Mr. Batbayar U. and Consul Mr. Ankhbayar G.
On November 1, with the support of Oyu Tolgoi LLC and "Gegeen" NGO, which supports the Comprehensive Human Resources Development Program, a meeting was held to develop mutually beneficial cooperation between MSUT and Colorado School of Mines in Denver, which is the world's top university in the field of mining. Prof. Namnan Tumurpurev and Prof. John Bradford, Vice President of the Colorado School of Mines, signed an agreement to develop cooperation in training, research and exchange. With the establishment of this agreement, it was decided to cooperate in the implementation of joint degree programs in the fields of mining geotechnics, mining social policy, mineral resources policy, law, mining management, and the introduction of mining rock and tunnel laboratory management. Within the framework of this agreement, it became possible to implement joint training programs for mutual recognition of credits in the field of geotechnical engineering and other mining professions. In addition, it was agreed to initiate a scholarship student exchange program in the near future. Also at the meeting, Mr. Narantsogt Ch, Supervisor of Cupper traning of Rio Tinto joined and he gave information about the need to increase industrial participation in the development of cooperation in the engineering education of both universities, especially in the field of geotechnical engineering. As a result, it was agreed to investigate the possibility of initiating student exchange programs with the support and participation of Oyu Tolgoi LLC.
